In what would be Coach Bates final season at Monroe, the Bearcats suffered through adversity to post a lowly 2-4-1 record on the year. Inconsistency, chiefly caused by injuries, hurt the team and the team regressed greatly from their championship season a year before. The season started out strong with a victory against Stanwood but routs from Marysville and Burlington quickly humbled the team. The best victory of the campaign came against Arlington when the ‘Cats managed to upset a powerful Eagles squad that eventually became the champions that season. Standing at 2-2, the Bearcat offense struggled as the team dropped the next two games to Edmonds and Snohomish. The season ended at Sultan when the Bearcats battled the Turks to a scoreless standstill. It would be Coach Bates’ last game at Monroe as he would be hired by Snohomish in the offseason. Bud Pripp would take the head coach position for the 1942 season.
