After a breakout season in 2022, the 2023 Bearcats continued their dominance of the WESCO South District. The first game of the season against Roosevelt was the closest game the Bearcats would play in until the State Playoffs. Powered by trio of Seniors, QB Blake Springer, RB Gavin Ranz, and WR Ryan Miller, Monroe’s offense remained elite. The defense, led by Juniors Carl Watson III and Brennan Sheppard, improved even further from the previous season. The offense scored over fifty points in four games while the defense produced three shutouts. The Bearcats humiliated Snohomish in the final game of the season, with Blake Springer tossing a school record six touchdown passes. The Bearcats completed their second consecutive undefeated regular season as the players looked to win their first conference title since 2021. Monroe faced Arlington in the WESCO 3A Championship game, adding another chapter to their old rivalry. The Eagles overpowered the Bearcats but the team quickly rebounded against Bonney Lake, clinching their second consecutive trip to the State Playoffs. The season came to an end against Bellevue as Blake Springer suffered an injury that knocked him out of the game. Despite the defeat, the Bearcats concluded another successful season as Springer also shattered various school records, cementing his legacy as one of Monroe’s greatest QBs.
