In his first season as head coach, Manley Sackett had large expectations to live up to. Coming after a successful tenure from Coach Bankhead and winning seasons since 1926, Monroe had come to expect greatness. Dropping the opening game to Bothell didn’t seem to slow down the Bearcats as they would win their next three games in impressive fashion. At 3-1, it seemed the ‘Cats were on the way to another county title but this wasn’t to be. Once Monroe came up against strong competition, the season fell apart as the ‘Cats were shutout in their final three games. The season ended with a disappointing 3-4 record, their first losing season in years.
