In the first three seasons of Monroe football, the program proved to be fairly stable but the young team faced a great deal of adversity in 1914. No one was found to replace Coach Rhode and the team was forced to play the season without a head coach. The lack of leadership clearly hurt the team as the ‘Cats finished with a lowly 2-4 record. Despite being leaderless, the Bearcats showed that they were still a capable team. In the second game of the season, Monroe routed Edmonds 26-0 and defeated Tolt to close out the year.
