After narrowly missing the county title the year before, the 1916 Bearcats came back with a vengeance in their 1916 campaign. Monroe featured a powerful defense that shut down their opponents all season long, posting at least three shutouts in five games. The Bearcats won their first four games, including two wins against Snohomish, and went on the capture the county championship. A game against the powerhouse Everett High School team was slated to be the final game of the year, which a game that may have had the state title on the line. Nevertheless, this monumental contest was never played between the two teams.
