After an outstanding campaign in 1936, the Bearcats under Coach Bates declined in the next season as the team couldn’t find consistency in their play. Hopes for a repeat of the year before were eliminated early in the season as the Bearcats tied Sultan and then were soundly defeated by Snohomish and Marysville the following weeks. Even with a bad start, the ‘Cats still showed some fight by beating Arlington and Sultan in a rematch. The year ended on a positive note as Monroe shutout Stanwood to end with a passable 3-3-1 record.
