The 1938 season was one that tested Coach Bates and the Bearcats as they struggled to regain their winning form of previous seasons. Monroe started out the campaign on the right foot with back to back shutouts of Snoqualmie and Sultan but the team wouldn’t maintain this success for long. Once the ‘Cats came up against quality opponents, the season quickly spiraled out of control as a five game losing streak closed out the year. Some games were close but others were blowout losses as the team didn’t have the talent it had had before. The season ended with a loss to Snohomish, finishing with a 2-5 record.
