Following Coach Donnelly and the success of the previous season would be a challenge for Coach Hahn and the Bearcats in 1948. Consistent success and continuity were problems for Monroe during the 1940’s as Coach Hahn was the sixth different coach hired within the decade. The start of the season didn’t inspire confidence as the Bearcats lost against Snohomish and Sultan, two of Monroe’s biggest rivals, to open the campaign. The ‘Cats rallied and followed this start with a three game winning streak to get the season back on track. The turnaround only went so far as the Bearcats went 2-2 in their last four to finish with a modest 5-4 record.
