After a successful first season under Coach Hahn, the Bearcats quickly regressed to a lackluster 2-5-1 record in 1949. It became quickly apparent that it was going to be a long season for Monroe as they were dismantled in their first two games, being outscored 85-12 by Snohomish and Twin City. After a loss to Lake Stevens, the ‘Cats got back on their feet with wins against Darrington and Sultan to help with an otherwise bleak season. The Bearcats would drop their last two games of the season to finish with a losing record in what was a forgettable year for the team. Coach Hahn left the team in the offseason, allowing John Stahl to take over as head coach the following year.
