After steadily improving since he had taken over, Coach Stahl and the Bearcats were primed for one of the finest seasons in team history. The Bearcats began the season with blowout victories but also close wins against O’Dea and Concrete to start out 4-0 and once again contending for a championship. In their fifth game the ‘Cats met up with their arch-rivals Sultan, who were also undefeated, in one of the most important matchups of the season. Sultan went on to crush the Bearcats 20-0, seemingly ending all title hopes for Monroe. This defeat did not slow down the ‘Cats as they went on win against Oak Harbor and Lake Stevens to still be in the thick of the title hunt. These hopes were revived when Sultan lost a conference game and all Monroe needed to do was to win out the rest of the season. After defeating Granite Falls to end the season, Monroe captured a share of the conference title with Sultan as they finished with a spectacular 8-1 record.
