After a modest season the year before, Coach Stahl and the Bearcats eagerly wanted to recapture their championship glory in 1954. As the ‘Cats began the season, it looked as though they had returned to form as they started out 4-0 and had their sights set at a conference title. Wiping the floor with the Everett 2nd Team, the Bearcats met up against a powerful Oak Harbor team that also had championship aspirations. In a game that decided more than the league championship, the Bearcats were crushed 26-0. From that point on, the Bearcats couldn’t recover as the season completely flipped on the team. Going 4-0 to start the year, the ‘Cats went 1-4 to close out the season, with the only win coming against Sultan. After dropping the final game to Twin City, the Bearcats finished the year 5-4. This would also be the last season under Coach Stahl as he left the team to assistant coach Cliff Gillies starting the next year.
