Coming off a fine start to his tenure at Monroe, Coach Hanson and the Bearcats continued to get better in 1962. After dropping a close game to Anacortes, the Bearcats dominated their next four opponents to meet Lake Stevens with title hopes in mind. While the offense dropped off slightly from the ’61 squad, the defense stole the show all season long as the Bearcats recorded an outstanding six shutout victories. The Bearcats fell to Lake Stevens and lost to Langley the following week, ending any dreams of a conference title that season. This would not slow down the Bearcats as the team shutout Concrete and Sultan to end the year on a positive note.
