After steady improvement over the course of a few years, the 1963 Bearcats broke out with one of their finest seasons in recent memory. The ‘Cats didn’t show any hesitation announcing their presence as a force to be reckoned with as they ran through their first games to start 4-0. An even more explosive offense was paired with a defense that was just as effective as the the season before, keying success all season long. Monroe then enjoyed a rare bye week as the stage was set for a matchup against Lake Stevens with conference title implications. In a hard fought game, the Bearcats narrowly fell to the Vikings, ending their chance at winning the conference. The ‘Cats still fought the rest of the season and won their final three games to finish with a successful 7-1 mark. After the season ended, Coach Hanson left the program, concluding a short but very successful tenure at Monroe. Lewis Drew would take over as head coach for the following season.
