Despite winning only three games, the 1972 Bearcats showed improvement from the previous season. The offense struggled and while the defense was still weak, it proved to be vastly more capable than the 1971 squad. Wins against Oak Harbor, Anacortes, and Stanwood showed that the team could still compete with conference foes. Standing at 3-4, the Bearcats looked primed to finish off the season well. Instead, Monroe fell in their last three games to finish with a forgettable 3-7 mark.
