The 1976 Bearcats season was an improvement over the previous campaign but was still overall a mediocre year. The ‘Cats started out the season 2-2, defeating Mount Si and the Canadian team North Delta once again, but also falling to O’Dea and rival Sultan. This 2-2 start would be the zenith for Monroe as the defense struggled greatly for the rest of the season. A win against Stanwood would be the only highlight as the season closed but the most memorable part of the year came in the last game at Sedro-Woolley. A close fought game ended in favor of Sedro-Woolley but not before a massive brawl broke out in the last minutes of play. It would also be the final game under Coach Lucero as Rollin Wilson took over the team in the offseason.
