The 1990 Bearcat season kept up the winning tradition at Monroe, improving to a 7-3 finish on the year over the 6-5 record the season before. With the departure of QB Jason Olson, Junior Nate LaCoss took over as the signal-caller for the ‘Cats, guiding the team to another successful season. After starting 1-2, the Bearcats shifted into an unbeatable force the rest of the regular season. The ‘Cats won six in a row, highlighted by a 59-3 dismantling of Mountlake Terrace as the offense and defense were on full display. In the final five games of the season the defense took control as the Monroe only allowed a total of 13 points. At 7-2, the Bearcats met Renton in the first round of the state playoffs where they would be defeated by a score of 33-20. Coach Nowadnick would not return as head coach in 1991, ending a very successful career at Monroe that completely rejuvenated the program. Assistant coach Randy Olson would take over for Nowadnick and would lead the team for the next eleven seasons.
