Despite parting ways with Coach Nowadnick in the offseason, the Bearcats began the Randy Olson-era without missing a beat. Finishing with a similar 7-3 record, the 1991 squad played even better football than the previous team. After opening with a close 8-7 loss to Mariner, the Bearcats followed with six straight victories in dominating fashion. An explosive offense and a suffocating defense were key factors that led to the ‘Cats claiming their first outright WESCO conference title and returning to the state playoffs. In the first playoff round, the Bearcats matched up against Seattle Prep and were narrowly defeated 14-12. The 1991 season would be the last time Monroe won a WESCO conference title until the 2012 season.
