Coming off their first outright conference championship the previous year, Coach Olson and the Bearcats turned out another successful season in 1992. Monroe began the season with some trepidation, starting out with a 2-2 record that consisted of tight victories and decisive losses. Despite looking vulnerable at the start, the Bearcat defense sparked an impressive run to cap off the season as they held four teams to less than 10 points in their last five games. Monroe also won their fifth straight victory of their arch-rival Lake Stevens, one of the longest streaks in their historic rivalry. Closing with a 41-6 beatdown of Mountlake Terrace, the ‘Cats faced Anacortes in the qualifying playoff round. The dominant Bearcat defense ran out of steam and Anacortes ran away with a 33-16 victory, ending the Monroe season with a 6-4 record. It was the start of a 19 year long drought for the program as it was also the last playoff game for Monroe until 2011.
