The 1996 season was defined by close defeats as four of the six losses were decided by seven points or less. Monroe started out the season with a four game losing streak and it seemed as though the season was over before it was even halfway over. The ‘Cats then won three in a row as the team seemed to come alive, punctuated by a wins over rival Lake Stevens and a 41-7 dismantling of South Whidbey. Despite seemingly finding their groove, Monroe for the second year in a row dropped a close game to W.F. West in a 34-33 loss and fell to Arlington 14-7 in the last game of the season.
