Despite the 1998 season being a resounding success for the Bearcats, it was in many ways bittersweet. The ‘Cats looked formidable at times and looked beatable in certain weeks, eventually coming to the final three games of the season with a 3-3 record. The Bearcats showed their potential in those final three games, winning by no less than 14 points in each of those games. The best win of the season came at Lake Stevens as the ‘Cats demolished the Vikings 42-0, their third straight victory against them. Even with a 6-3 record, the Bearcats missed participating in the state playoffs. The 1998 season would also be the last winning season the program enjoyed until 2011.
