The 2001 Bearcats season was their first in the WESCO 4A conference and would go down as their worst season in team history. After scoring in the first two games of the season, the ‘Cats wouldn’t score another point the rest of the season as the team simply could not stand up to their new competition. The closest the Bearcats came to victory was in the last week of the season against Black Hills, falling 7-0 and concluding their first winless season since 1982. Coach Olson retired from coaching at the end of the season after decades of service to the football program. Olson ended his career having the most career wins as well as being the longest serving coach in program history.
