After showing some signs of improvement in 2003, the 2004 Bearcats took a step backwards as they posted a 1-9 record. Despite playing some close games against Arlington, Oak Harbor, Cascade and Mount Vernon, the ‘Cats would only be able to win against rival Lake Stevens in a surprising upset. It was evident Monroe was still not ready to be competitive in their new conference. In the offseason, the program moved on from Coach Haynie and hired Steve Hannan to head the team the following season.
