Despite regressing from the previous season and posting a losing record, the 2012 Bearcat season was still memorable and successful for the program. The Bearcats alternated between wins and losses for most of the season, ending with a 4-5 record. Fortunately for Monroe, these wins were key to winning the conference. The most memorable win came when the ‘Cats beat Lake Stevens in a tight 9-7 matchup, defeating the Vikings for the first time since 2005. The victory granted Monroe a share of the WESCO 4A North with Lake Stevens, their first title since 1991. The Bearcats then met Rogers in the qualifying playoff round at home, losing thrilling and close fought game 14-7. A punt return for a touchdown by the Rams late in the game keyed the victory, ending the Bearcats season in heartbreaking fashion.
