The 2016 Bearcats season set various records in school history that would only be broken only a year later by the 10-2 team. The season also marked the first time since 1989 that the Bearcats won a qualifying playoff round game. A high-powered offense, led by team captains QB Zachary Zimmerman and RB J.J. Jerome, coupled with a stiff defense gave the team an 8-0 start as the team averaged 44 points a game while only allowing an average of 16 points. The dream of a perfect season and a conference title were spoiled by Lake Stevens in a blowout loss as the Bearcats took their 8-1 record against Auburn Riverside in the qualifying playoff round. After overcoming a 14 point deficit, the Bearcats defeated Riverside 48-28 to move onto the first round against Sumner. Despite being underdogs, the Bearcats had the lead as late as the 4th quarter before falling to the Spartans, ending one of the most successful seasons in school history
